Ayrton Senna 20 Years On.

Senna JPS Lotus 98T we collected and delivered to RAC Club, Pall Mall, London at 5am in the morning as part of a commerative exhibition to mark 20 years on from the death at San Marino of Ayrton Senna.

The Lotus Renault 98T here on display has been beautifully restored by Patrick Morgan and his talented team at Dawn Treader Performance, it has been kindly provided to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Ayrton Senna’s death. Chassis 004 was Ayrton Senna’s race car for the second half of the 1986 Formula One Championship and was also the last Lotus to be sponsored by JPS. It started from pole position on three occasions and achieved four podium finishes. 

It was the last of the famous JPS cars produced at Ketteringham Hall. Driven by Ayrton Senna and Johnny Dumfries it achieved significant success particularly in qualifying. The last of the unrestricted turbos the car was powered by the trail blazing Renault V6 engine in its final EF15 configuration. With race power rated at just above 1000bhp and qualifying power estimated to exceed 1300bhp the engine proved remarkably drivable but suffered from a lack of fuel efficiency during the early part of the season. The car features several novel systems including driver adjustable ride height and water injection.
